The Story of "King Art"
Art, began his career at Lutherwood over 40 years ago as a volunteer in the ‘Cottage’ at Benjamin Road. He soon became a relief staff and then a full time staff in 1978.
Throughout his 25 years at Lutherwood's Benjamin Road location, Art worked in the residence and day programs as a front line staff, Assistant Supervisor, Night Shift Coordinator and House Manager. In July of 2003 Art made the trek to Lutherwood's 41 Weber Street location to become Safe Haven Youth Shelter's first Program Supervisor. Art stayed in the Supervisory role until 2008 when he transitioned back to the night shift.
In 2017, after providing support to youth at Lutherwood for more than 40 years, Art retired, starting a new chapter in his life, which has allowed him to spend more time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
When asked about his career, Art stated ‘it has been such a fulfilling and rewarding ride packed with adventure, fun, purpose and at times, sadness. I have always appreciated the efforts of our company’s leadership to create and sustain a strong and vibrant community of employees who commit to the goals, values, and vision to serve those in need. I have reflected on my journey of learning and growing through the people I have met and experiences shared. The culture of Lutherwood is very dear to my heart, and as a ‘family’ we pull together to help make the world a better place’.
